Phillison Kieler was 15 when he began his radio career with WGLR, serving as a spotter for Flying Arrows football games and providing commentary whenever the sports director was otherwise occupied.

He also swept floors at the station, wrote advertising copy and the weekend farm report, organized bond and scrap drives to support the war effort, and helped out with live remotes.

After World War II service in the Navy, he worked in a series of jobs within his family's ready-mix business. But the glamour of AM radio was too strong, and soon, Phillison was back on the air at GLR, as staff announcer, farm report host, and news reporter.

In 1950, Phillison began WGLR's popular Saturday night quiz show, Kieler’s Kollege of Unkommon Knowledge, which served as a right of passage for generations of Grant County residents. His trademark phrase, "Are you sure?" was as popular locally as "Final Answer?" was in the heyday of Millionaire.

Phillison retired in 2005 and still lives in Lancaster.
