QUALITY EXTERIOR CONCRETE FLATWORK SEMINAR TO FEATURE ACI BEST PRACTICES

Mark your calendar and plan now to attend the June 4, 2008, Quality Exterior Concrete Flatwork seminar, sponsored by the Technical Committee of the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association  (WRMCA).

The seminar will focus on best practices as recommended by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and will benefit architects, builders, contractors, municipal officials, specifiers, and ready-mix and other construction professionals serving the 53172 delivery area.

Attendees will learn the DOs and DON’Ts of proper exterior concrete placement practices from a certified ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher, Tom Geary of Tri-North, Inc, and a certifiable crack-resistant-concrete activist, Dan Large of Propex Concrete Systems.

I have had the pleasure of working with both presenters.  Dan was the one of the most requested and popular instructors at Alby University, during my tenure on staff with Alby Materials’ Knowledge Management division.  Tom shared the presentation platform with WRMCA Technical Marketing Director Pat Bauer, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) National Resource Director Jon Hansen, WRMCA Promotion Director Cherish Schwenn, and me at last December’s WRMCA Parking Lot Promotion Academy.

As the Concrete Division Manager for Tri-North, Tom Geary is responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, and executing all flatwork concrete operations.  Tom has earned the following industry certifications:

  • Certified Pervious Concrete Technician (NRMCA)
  • Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1 (ACI),
  • Concrete Flatwork Finisher and Technician (ACI)
  • 10-hour OSHA Safety Course (AGC/Wisconsin).

Dan Large has passionately invested 25 years of blood, sweat, and tears in promoting quality concrete, including stints as Quality Control Manager for Schmitz Ready Mix and as Territory Manager for Propex Concrete Systems.  He serves on the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association Board of Directors and is chair of the association’s Technical Committee.

Dan and Tom are highly-engaging speakers with the ability to translate technical concepts and construction specifications into language and practical instruction contractors and other construction professionals, and lay and marketing persons, can understand.
