2007 POSTSI'm creating this post on Christmas Eve, 2007, as I wait for the rest of my family to get ready for church. In addition to celebrating the birth of Christ, today marks the tenth anniversary of the first published web log. Geeks quickly re-arranged the letters ... to "we blog" and soon dropped the resultant pronoun. With little fanfare, the Blogosphere was born. Today, Google estimates more than 100,000 blogs are launched daily. With even less fanfare, I published my first Concrete 53172 blog post on August 13, 2007. Links to 2007 postings are found in the left-hand column of this page. Each week the blog has gained traction, creating an ongoing conversation with a growing community of construction industry stakeholders. Much of what I shared in 2007 embedding value in products and services through quality, service, delivery expertise, price, and sales and marketing savvy, for example is simply common sense. But often it is not simple to turn common sense into common practice. I shared the knowledge and expertise of a number of thought-leader heavyweights in my 2007 posts, including management guru Tom Peters, sales guru Jeffrey Gitomer, WRMCA Promotion Director Cherish Schwenn, naturalist Loren Eisley, message-management guru Tim Riesterer, and Dr. Lawrence Steinmetz, the world's leading authority on getting top dollar for products and services. I also provided a number of useful resources, including the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association, and High Yield Management, Inc., Larry Steinmetz's highly successful consultancy. Finally, I challenged concrete stakeholders in Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula to fight the commoditization of their industry by working in association to increase top line market share for ready-mixed concrete. As the most beautiful, durable, versatile, available, and environmentally friendly construction material in the history of the planet, ready-mixed concrete deserves every industry stakeholder embracing my challenge.
